Dancing through COVID

Reflection is a wonderful tool. We reflect after performances, rehearsals, exams... the list goes on. Consciously we reflect on what could be better, or what went really wrong. Not often do we reflect on a class or performance, that was done well. We often leave our thoughts in the negative to deal with later, and in the current isolation situation due to COVID-19, it's hard not to. However, I'd like to say how impressed I am, witnessing the care taken on basic positioning and steps like arabesque lines, controlled landings, hip placement and a general increase in body awareness that IS injury prevention really.

This situation, has allowed the body to rest to some degree and work SMART; Considerations in flooring, jumping in runners instead of ballet shoes, working on basic alignment and breaking down basic technique in a small area. Aspects of internal and external environments, that are generally an injury risk, are being addressed. It's wonderful to see.

So if there's anything positive to take from time in isolation, it is the mind-body awareness and placement of clean lines and landings that we can take back into the studio.

Up next, a chat about pointe shoe considerations.

Mel.
